COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS

BIBLE READING: PSALM 103:1-8

I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever; With my mouth will I make known Your faithfulness to all generations. For I have said, “Mercy shall be built up forever; Your faithfulness You shall establish in the very heavens.” Psalm 89:1-2(NKJV).

In 1897, Johnson Oatman, Jr. published one of the ageless hymns we have inherited, titled “Count Your Blessings.” The refrain of that hymn says:
Count your blessings; name them one by one,
Count your blessings, see what God has done!
Count your blessings; name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.

Have you taken some time to count your blessings, especially as were lavished upon you in the year that just ended? Have you taken some time to give God quality thanks and praise for these blessings from a heart that is genuinely and unreservedly grateful? You just have to create some quality time to do so, not just today, but at frequent intervals all through the year.

In Psalms 103, the psalmist, David, gave us a format for rendering overflowing, heartfelt, thanks and praise unto God. He bellowed; “Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits….” (Psalms 103:1-2).

There is a tendency for many to spend time at this period of the year counting and ruminating over their losses and misfortunes instead of blessing the Lord for the great things He has done. No matter how much you think you lost, you could have lost even more, but God did not allow that to be.

Embrace the New Year with an attitude of gratitude and you will find the grace to live victoriously in this New Year.

PRAYER POINTS:
• Thank God for helping you in the challenges and battles of last year.

• Request that all things that were stumbling blocks to you be turned into stepping stones this year.

CONFESSION:
Thank You Lord for this privilege of a new beginning.
In You, I am always assured of all-round victory.
