THE MYSTERY OF FLYING IN FORMATION
BIBLE READING: MARK 6:7; AMOS 3:3; MATTHEW 12:25-26; 1COR. 1:10-13
“And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.” Mark 3:25(KJV).
There are mandates that relate to the kingdom that require a corporate approach to fulfill them. They require us to function as a group in unity for their fulfillment and as such, the scriptures address us as a group with regards to these corporate missions. One of these mandates is the mandate to make disciples of all nations. This is something we do as a church and not as individuals.
In military aviation, flying in formation is the disciplined and synchronised flight of two or more aircrafts in a coordinated manner under the command of a flight leader. Military pilots use formations primarily for unity, mutual defence and concentration of firepower.
Some kinds of birds like geese and pelicans also fly in formation. When they do this, the birds at the end of the formation save energy in flight and are instead carried by the updrafts generated by the birds ahead of them. The birds take turns to lead the formation so that each of them gets to take a turn leading and using the most energy, and also staying at the back of the formation and using the least energy. This way they are able to migrate thousands of kilometres around the world.
It is God’s ultimate desire that we work together as one; that we unite as His family on earth in our pursuit of the great co-mission, that we see ourselves as part of one body; the body of Christ. That was Jesus’ profound petition in prayer before going to the cross in John 17: “That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.” John 17:21(KJV).
As covenant brothers and sisters who are members of God’s family, it is your primary responsibility to promote the unity of the body in the bond of peace. The unity of the body is your own security as well the basis for the success of our corporate mandate.
Success will elude us with regard to our corporate mandate in the kingdom, if division becomes our second nature in the household of God. You must adhere to upholding our togetherness. “Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Ephesians 4:3(KJV). You must not champion division: “I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought”-1Corinthians 1:10(NIV).
The battle we are in requires that we unite in faith, hope and love in order to carry out our assignment. When we are united in the family of God, we enjoy corporate protection, and have corporate victory. As we agree and launch out in formation (under authority), with our authority and power in Christ, the kingdom of darkness will bow.
Righteous Father, thank You for Your word today. Help me Lord to fit into your military formation to win the battles in these last days. Guide me not to break ranks but to stay in formation. Inspire me to uphold the unity of the brethren to which I belong. Thank you for answering my prayers, in Jesus name. Amen.
