HOW FAITH WORKS
BIBLE READING:1 CORINTHIANS 13:2b; MARK 11:22-26
“For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.” Galatians 5:6(NKJV)
The Christian Life is designed by the Lord God Almighty to be a faith-driven life. The visions and dreams He has for us require a force which transcends our natural abilities, hence, the need to understand the dynamics of faith. The Scripture emphasizes the importance of faith as it relates to pleasing God: “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a Rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”(Hebrews 11:6). Simply put, those who don’t live a life of faith lose their relevance to Him.
From a careful study of the Bible, we can see there are 5 Laws of Faith or Conversion i.e. Prayer, Revelation, Conviction, Confession and Action (Mark 5:25-34). However, the most important aspect of the dynamics of faith is the motive behind it. The way a standing fan, for instance, has a regulator which determines its speed and direction is the same way faith has a regulator without which it could end up being destructive or counterproductive. That regulator is the Love of God.This rule applies in any area of life where the exercise of faith is required.
One of the major reasons King Solomon was both the wisest and wealthiest man to walk upon the surface of the Earth was that God gave him “largeness of heart like the sand on the seashore.”(1Kings 4:29). All through the Gospels,we can see how often throughout His Earthly Ministry the Lord Jesus was “moved with compassion”(Matthew 9:36), prompting Him to display diverse acts of faith such as healing the sick, raising the widow of Nain’s son from the dead, miraculously using five loaves of bread and two fish to feed the 5000 men besides women and children etc. By following our Lord’s example, we can see that genuine Love for people triggers off the Power of God activated by faith.
Concluding his most comprehensive analysis of the Agape Love of God, Apostle Paul states clearly the three cardinal virtues: “And now abide faith, hope, love, these three: but the greatest of these is love”(1Cor.13:13). These three are intricately linked and often interface with each other with love being the greatest motive and hope being the greatest sustainer while faith remains undeniably the greatest force. This is also somewhat akin to faith being the father with hope being the expectant mother requiring the services of love being the skillful midwife who delivers the child of promise.
It then begs the question: Why do we seek the Anointing? To what end and for what purpose? What exactly triggers off our faith in the miraculous Power of God? The sooner it dawns on us that the Provision of God is reserved for the People of God, the faster we become channels He can use for His Glory.
Our Most Gracious and Heavenly Father, we honour You for Who You Are. Thank You, O Lord, for reminding us of the place of compassion in the dynamics of faith. Cause us, Dear Lord, to do great and mighty works in Your Name triggered off by genuine love for Your People. This is what we ask in Jesus’ Mighty Name.
•Genuine compassion for people is my motive for being used of Him.
•I value God’s People more than I value His Provisions.
