PROPHETIC CONNECTION (1)
BIBLE READING: 2 KINGS 4:8-37
Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” John 4:10(NKJV)
Our key text is an excerpt from the encounter the Samaritan woman had with Jesus at Jacob’s well in the city of Samaria. This Samaritan woman considered Jesus an ordinary Jew when He requested for drinking water from her. She told Him that as a Samaritan, she had no dealings with Him and Jesus’ response was, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink….” The Samaritan woman continued arguing with Him until the Lord through the gift of the word of knowledge left her astonished, it was only then that she perceived that Jesus was a prophet and could be the Christ, then she ran and invited the men in the city to come and see a man….
Eighty percent of the problems of man are spiritual, they have no natural solutions. There are problems that having more of the necessities or luxuries of life cannot solve, there are problems that money cannot solve, there are medical conditions that drugs and doctors cannot solve, there are problems that connections to people in power cannot solve; that is why God gave us Ministry gifts, men who carry His power; His anointing.
Ministry gifts are the gifts of Jesus to the Church. Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers are the five-fold Ministry gifts (Eph. 4:8-12). Many believers are not taught how to receive these gifts, consequently, they do not enjoy the benefits of having them. Your prosperity is tied to your prophet. 2 Chronicles 20:20(NKJV); … Believe in the Lord your God and you shall be established; believe His prophets and you shall prosper.
How you give to a man of God or honour him is determined by how you perceive him. It is about your perception, that is why in order for the devil to deprive you of your blessings connected to the Ministry gifts, he relentlessly attacks them through the media like the print media, social media, radio, and ultimately your mind to downplay their importance in your life. Unfortunately, when you lightly esteem the place your prophet holds in your life, you suffer the consequences because it is you who remains disadvantaged, oppressed by demons of death, sickness, disease and lack.
Your perception of a prophet determines the kind of demand you will place on him. Also, the degree of honour you give to a prophet determines the degree of virtue that you will receive from him. He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward. And he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward(Matt. 10:41 NKJV).
The prophet’s reward is a supernatural law that God set in motion to reward anyone who receives and honours His servants. The prophet’s reward is the activation of the anointing on behalf of the one who honours the prophet that results in a divine intervention.
In 2 Kings 4:8-37, the Shunamite woman perceived that Elisha was a prophet and compelled him to come and eat at her house. She then convinced her husband to cater for the welfare of the prophet each time he passed by her city. This honour with which she consistently received Elisha made him prophesy the birth of a son for a hitherto childless woman. Besides that, when her son died prematurely, her connection to the prophet ensured that she did not lose any of her prophet’s reward because the prophet raised up her son from the dead. No wonder Hosea 12:13(NKJV) says, By a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet he was preserved.
Heavenly Father, I thank You for renewing my mind concerning the role of the prophet in my life. I repent for the ways in which I have dishonoured the prophets You sent into my life. I am a doer of Your word and not a hearer only in Jesus’ name.
