The topic of what kinds of meat are expedient to be eaten, varies across several cultures and religions. Certain cultures consider certain foods and meats taboo to be eaten, and as such people within those jurisdictions, tend to abstain from eating such foods even if it is against their will. One of such foods is pork. This particular meat is considered a special delicacy in most parts of the world, especially in Southern Nigeria.
However, there has been a lot of debate on the topic of eating pork as a Christian, especially when a section of the Bible, the old testament clearly condemns it. In a video making rounds on the internet, popular preacher Pastor Chris Oyakhilome shed light on the controversial topic.
Someone during a ‘question and answer session’ asked, is it okay for a Christian to eat pork?
Pastor Chris answers the question.
“It is okay for a Christian to eat anything. You can eat anything. I will read some scriptures to you. First, Romans 14:14, KJV: “I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteems any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.
“There is nothing unclean of itself, meaning no food is forbidden to be eaten by anyone, but if you consider a particular food to be forbidden, then it becomes so to you.
“So the decision is up to you on the kinds of things you choose to eat. God lets you choose whatever you want to eat. The second scripture in support of this is 1 Corinthians 8:8, which says “But meat commends us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.
This verse explains that whatever we eat or decide to abstain from, doesn’t make us worse or better. So what then? Eat whatever you feel like eating.
Lastly, 1 Timothy 4:1-3. “1 Now the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
“2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
“3 Forbidding to marry and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
“With the knowledge of these scriptures, you can see it is perfectly fine for you to eat pork.”
