THE 4 Ds OF SATAN

BIBLE READING: ACTS 2:22-31; COLOSSIANS 2:15

“For this Purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.” 1John 3:8b(NKJV).

The Sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ upon the Cross had several ramified implications throughout the entire creation. On the surface, it appeared as though the kingdom of darkness had won. After all, the Lord experienced untold torment not just on Calvary but also in hell where He had to pay in full the price for the sins of the world. This was alluded to by David prophetically in the Bible: “Many bulls have surrounded me; strong bulls of Bashan have encircled me. They gape at me with their mouths, like a raging and roaring lion. I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart is like wax; it has melted within me. My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue clings to my jaws; You have brought me to the dust of death. For dogs have surrounded me; the congregation of the wicked has enclosed me. They pierced my hands and my feet.” (Psalm 22:12-16).

Based on the law of double reference, David was giving a graphic description of the horrible experience Jesus was to face in the depths of hell. Surely satan seemed to have the last laugh but all Glory to the Lord for always being light years ahead of the devil. The latter and his acolytes were blinded to the reality of his defeat “for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of Glory.” (1Corinthians 2:8b).

There were four major things that happened to the devil as a result of Jesus’ Sacrifice on the Cross. We could also call them the Four Ds of satan:
•He was defeated: What satan failed to realise was that Jesus was the Promised Seed that would bruise the head of the serpent (see Genesis 3:15).

•He was dethroned: The devil was formerly the god of this world as a result of Adam’s lease which Jesus redeemed by His Passion (see Matthew 28:18).

•He was disarmed: Right there in hell, the Scripture tells us how Jesus spoiled or plundered satan himself “Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” (Colossians 2:15).

•He was destroyed: This was the Core Purpose of the Incarnation, “that He might destroy the works of the devil.” (1John 3:8b).

The devil may have won a battle but he ended up losing the war. Glory to God!

PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, to You alone we ascribe all the Glory and Honour. Thank You for satan our adversary has been defeated, dethroned, disarmed and defeated. We celebrate Your Total Victory in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen.
