THE FATHERHOOD PRINCIPLE
BIBLE READING: 2 KINGS 13:14-19; 1 CORINTHIANS 4:15
“Moreover, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we yielded [to them] and respected [them for training us]. Shall we not much more cheerfully submit to the Father of spirits and so [truly] live? Hebrews 12:9 (AMP).
The aforementioned Scripture outlines two major types of fathers:
(1.) Our Heavenly Father
(2.) Our Biological Fathers
There is a third type of father according to the Bible known as Spiritual Fathers (see 1Cor. 4:15).
What is Fatherhood? Who then is qualified to be called a father? We should begin by analysing the meaning of the term ‘father’ because one of the greatest dangers to society is the misconception of what
fatherhood is. This is essential because definitions determine interpretations, thus we
must start here. In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word for father is ‘Ab’.
The Aramaic term Abba, literally meaning ‘Daddy’, i.e. a term of endearment, comes from this word.
In the New Testament, the Greek word for father is ‘Pater’. So you have Ab and Abba in Old Testament Hebrew/Aramaic and Pater in New Testament Greek.
What do Ab and Pater mean? These words denote very basic concepts that include the following:
A Principle is a fundamental law that governs function and behaviour. We must understand the Basic Laws of Fatherhood in order to be effective fathers. The father is the source that
sustains, protects, nourishes and provides identity for that or those who he produces.
Let us look at some of the Concepts that pertain to Fatherhood:
This term comes from the Latin, meaning ‘to beget or bring forth’. It also denotes ‘precurser’ or ‘originator’. A Father is the initiator or source.
The concept of father also includes ‘founder’ or ‘foundation’. That’s why companies, institutions and
movements use the word ‘father’ to describe the person who
established the said organisation, institution or movement. The
men who established the United States of America are referred to as the ‘Founding Fathers’. Nelson Mandela is known as the ‘Father of the New South Africa’. If someone founded something, he is called the father of it. Why so? He generated it. He caused the genesis of it.
Father also implies authorship as well as the legitimate authority of something. Every father possesses inherent authority.
Father is also the one who teaches and nourishes. This means he provides nutrients and resources that develop, enrich, expand, grow and deploy that which comes from him.
In any Family, whether natural or spiritual, there can only be one father. We have for example only one Heavenly Father. We have only one Natural Father and likewise we have only one Spiritual Father.
(6.) TRANSFER OF INHERITANCE:
Father’s transfer inheritance to only their children. This is something mere mentors or instructors are unable to do.
From these truths about Fatherhood, we can see that disconnection from one’s Father (your Source) will ultimately lead to death.
Father, I pray You give me a Revelation of Fatherhood in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
