THE MINISTRY OF HELPS
BIBLE READING: 1 CORINTHIANS 3:9; EXODUS 24:13-14; 31:1-6; EXODUS 17:11-13; ROMANS 16:3-15
“And God has appointed these in the Church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues.”1 Corinthians 12:28 (NKJV).
The Gifts of genuine co-labourers or helps is one the greatest blessings one can receive from God. The Lord can conveniently take sleep off their eyes to labour concerning your family, ministry, church or organisation. They are like an anchor to your ship to prevent it from tumbling and to guide its arrival to the predetermined destination. Such gifts can only be stewarded by Wisdom from on High.
By way of analogy, the mystery of the aircraft in the aviation industry is not just in its ability to fly but in what keeps it in flight. It takes more than the pilot and the cabin crew to have a successful flight. It requires those at air traffic control, those at the runway, the ticketing staff, aircraft mechanics and engineers, all of whom are critical to its operations.
Also, in team sports, we see the players, the superstars the backbenchers, the coaches and the medical personnel but we see or hear little or nothing about the back office staff who work tirelessly so that the superstars are really who they are and focus on eventually winning the championship.
In Exodus 24:13-14, Joshua gave Moses tremendous help that enabled him to fulfill his God given assignment to the Nation of Israel. He served Moses, supplying all that Moses needed to make his job easy. Also, in Exodus 31:1-6, God gave Moses a team of men and women led by Bezaleel and Aholiab, to build the tent that was shown to him.
Families, Churches, organisations and businesses have the need for the ministry of helps or co-labourers if they are ever going to accomplish their assignments. The helpers of the vision are the ones that will interpret the blueprints of the vision and mobilise human and material resources to achieve the vision.
In 1 Chronicles 12, we can see that although David was anointed to be the King of Israel, he wasn’t yet crowned to sit on the throne and rule. It took the Ministry of Helps, helpers of the war from all the tribes of Israel who came with all kinds of resources to make it happen. They bound themselves by an oath to make David King. (see 1 Chro. 12:18,38).
In Romans 16:3-15, the pre-eminent apostle had a list of men and women who co-laboured with him in the spread and the defence of the Gospel. Though their names seem less significant, without their own ministries much success wouldn’t have been recorded by him. He also felt safe enough to mention them in the Scriptures for us because the services they rendered in the advancement of the kingdom were noteworthy.
The Ministry of Helps cannot be trivialized in any family, Church, ministry and even organisation if they hope to achieve their dreams. Such ministers are usually recruited in the place of prayer. Even Jesus prayed in His Twelve (Lk. 6:13-16). Jesus is the Chief Shepherd while all others are under shepherds. In the same way, in a church or ministry the set man is the chief shepherd and all those under him are in the Ministry of Helps (Num.11:16-17).
O Lord God of Hosts, activate within the Body of Christ armies of helps ministers for this End-time Harvest in Jesus Name. Amen.
