THE PRINCIPLE OF SACRIFICE
BIBLE READING: ESTHER 4; 2SAMUEL 23:13-17
Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My Life that I may take it again. John 10:17 (NKJV).
In carrying out the desires of a father, a son may have to risk his life to get things done. Some sacrifices are usually involved in the Father-Son Relationship; For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His Life a Ransom for many (Mark 10:45).
A son may have to sacrifice his comfort, his will, his position and even his life just as Jesus Christ sacrificed His Life and Position for the Fulfillment of His Father’s Will. The book of Philippians is elaborate in speaking about the Sacrificial Life of Jesus; Who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient to the point of death, even the Death of the Cross (Phil.2:6-8).
Sometimes the sacrifices can be material/tangible because a son also sacrifices his substance for his father. When a son willingly gives of his substance, God recognises it as a sacrifice. See what Apostle Paul said about the sacrificial life of the Church in Philippi: Indeed I have all and abound. I am full, having received from Epaphroditus the things sent from you, an odour of a sweet-smelling aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well pleasing to God (Phil. 4:18).
We are called to imitate Christ as the Firstborn of God in the way He made huge sacrifices; Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma (Eph.5:1-2). Our Lord Jesus calls us to a life of sacrifice with Him; saying, The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day. Then He said to them all, “If any man desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me (Luke 9:22-23).
Lord, I ask for a heart that is completely yielded to You. Let Your Will be done in my life, Lord and let Your Kingdom come. I pull down eveything that tries to take Your Place in my heart and life in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
