THE ROLE OF STRUCTURE IN SPIRITUAL GROWTH

BIBLE READING: LUKE 14:28; JOHN 6:1-12
No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse. Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved. Matthew 9:16-17 (KJV).
Structure is the number one key to growth, any type of growth. No living thing can grow beyond it’s structure. An ant cannot grow to the size of an elephant because it doesn’t have the structure for it. Even if you feed the ant like an elephant, it can only grow to the size of it’s structure.
Structure is the mode of building, construction, or organization; arrangement of parts, elements, or constituents. It is how different parts function together to achieve an objective. It is the foundation on which other things are built, resources are preserved, deployed and multiplied.
From our key text, Matthew 9:16-17, structure is the wineskin that preserves the new wine; the arrangement of people in groups of fifties that makes possible the multiplication of bread, and the gathering of the fragments that ensures that nothing wastes.
To grow spiritually, one needs a structure that will enable and preserve such growth. The structure for spiritual growth will include but is not limited to the following: Daily Bible Study, Praying with the Spirit and with the Understanding, Regular fellowship with other believers, witnessing and sharing your faith with others whenever the opportunity arises, giving a percentage of your income for the work of the gospel and daily devotion and prayer schedule.
Sweet Holy Spirit, help us to develop and maintain the necessary structures for our spiritual growth and development in Jesus’ Name. Amen!
